Want to make sure you don’t overdo it during the holidays? Here’s a step-by-step procedure that worked for me this year:
- A couple of days after Christmas do something that tweaks your lower back.
- Spend two days lying on the floor with a heating pad.
- Recover just in time to travel to visit family for the weekend.
- Make sure someone in the family is contagious with a stomach bug.
- Catch the bug.
- Return home.
- 24 hours after returning notice a strange rumbling in your belly.
- Spend 48 hours counting the stripes in the wallpaper in your bathroom since you pretty much live there full time.
- Lose 8 pounds!
- Have your back tighten up just as you’re feeling better from the stomach bug and spend another night on the floor.
Happy new year!

Youch!
Hope you’re back up soon.
I lost 5 lbs in a bathroom in Atlanta this summer. Hopefully you weren’t going from both ends.
Being diminished in height, I am so far unfamiliar with back pain, though I have seen others suffer terribly.
I hope you get some good pain meds while you recover.
Thanks Esbee and Fec.
Fec, the silver lining for me was that I was uni-directional in my ballast dropping and it required sitting rather than kneeling. Aleve is a god-send since I’m too lazy to go to the doctor and the pharmacy.
