
Here’s a website that’s just plain disturbing. Apparently in the Victorian era it was common to photograph the recently deceased, and sometimes even pose with them. Be forewarned that there are a lot of children pictured, often with their siblings and parents.

I think it is probably because it was more common to die back then.
Certainly disturbing by today’s standards as we do not have such customs now. But you can see love and devotion in those pictured with their children and family. It is sad to see so many young ones, but it was fairly common back then. We are blessed with today’s medical practice. I would have almost certainly lost one child already if it were 80 – 100 years earlier.
You’re right Joe. Childhood diseases that our now mere nuisances were often fatal; imagine dealing with all the ear infections back then!
