Field Reporting from the Wilds of Greensboro

Former Charlotte mayor and '08 Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory spoke to my Rotary Club at lunch today.  He did a nice job, and during the Q&A he indicated that at this point he's definitely planning on running for governor again in '12.  Not exactly news, but if nothing else it has me already thinking about what should be an incredibly active campaign season over the next two years.

It just goes to prove that all politicians care about is the next election cycle, and not any of the issues pressing their constituents right now. Sad really. If they cared about the vote for real change, they couldn’t get re-elected. Really makes the case for term limits in Legislative bodies, as well as Executive.

Well, for what its worth I liked what I heard today and I liked what
I saw from McCrory in 08. Hes out of politics right now, working for
a law firm in Charlotte, so theres really no reason he should
hesitate to start campaigning. Unfortunately the reality is that in
todays political environment all politicians are always campaigning.
We can only hope that they have the guts to do the right thing even
when its not good for them politically. I may be naïve, but I think
there are still people who will do that.
