Brian Leon has a post about the coffee situation here in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County. He points out that the Moby's in the Liberty Plaza building is under new management and is now called the Sands Coffee House. He also writes about Confluence Coffee House in his neck of the woods near the intersection of Peters Creek Parkway/150 and Old Salisbury Road in South Winston, and he seems to like it quite a lot.
This got me to thinking: what's the best coffee shop in Forsyth? Yes it's a highly subjective question, and I also think that it depends on what you're looking for and what particular mood on any given day, so maybe a better question is "What is your favorite coffee shop in Forsyth and why?"
Anyone that knows me knows that I L-O-V-E coffee so I'm going to sacrifice here and do my own research. If you know of a great place to get a cup of joe just let me know and I'll check it out, and some time in the next couple of weeks I'll publish a guide to the great coffee joints in Forsyth. I'll also write up each experience as they come along. Yep, it's a sacrifice.

Hey I with you there. I like my coffee too and I visited my share of places especially when I worked in downtown Winston-Salem.
Starbucks is a usual fix for me mainly because they are so prevalent around the city though the best one of the lot is the one at Barnes & Noble bookstore because of their dessert selection is superb.
The Dancing Goat located on North Main St I really liked especially for conversations with the two female owners. I reviewed the place at http://www.insiderpages.com/b/15232025094.
Confluence Coffee is a place I really like as you pointed out already. Never been to Krankies either at the downtown location or at their satellite location on Reynolds Rd though I think Esbee been there and raved about it.
Chelsees on Trade St I really going to as well.
Brew Nerds has good coffee and snacks but I really like their science fiction concept and the names they attached to drinks and food. I think the location downtown ( the former SIN coffee shop) is what did in the Brueggers/Dilworth shop in the Nissen building.
Simply Yummy at Reynolda Village has a great tea selection but I go there for the lunch sandwiches. Superb if a bit pricey.
Cafe Prada at Fourth & Broad is worth checking out as well.
If you want to build your own customised drink, try the touchscreen ordering system at Sheetz stations.
Of course, when looking for the best coffee places, you will have to distinguish between the standard cup of coffee, the Italian coffees (Latte, espresso) and the speciality concoctions (Frappucinos, Chai etc which may have no coffee at all in them)
Thanks Brian, you’ve given me a good head start. I’ve had coffee at SimplyYummy, various Starbucks, Chelsees and a couple of other places. I usually drink just plain coffee (black) so I think I’ll use that as my comparison. I’m also going to come up with various criteria that I’m looking for: free wi-fi, foods that they serve (not to judge, just to see what’s offered), seating, music, etc. Since this is so subjective I’m thinking that as far as the coffee goes I’m just going to look at how they serve it, how many varieties they have and what they charge for re-fills. I’ll let someone else look at the foo-foo drinks:)
Brew Nerds makes a great Americano.
Jon… The “best” cup would be some freshly roasted coffee beans at the house. My good friend Sterling that blogs at http://www.sterlinggriggs.blogspot.com roasts his own beans, which are imported from different parts of the world. He used to roast to sell but now it’s just for personal consumption due to time constraints.
Have you ever looked into learning to roast your own beans being you love coffee so much?
